Hey Where's Mom's?
Thanks Dad it really does help me hearing some of the things you write. Ya that Matthew holmes is not a member but its awesome to hear that is getting envolved with the church. Brandon is such a goof but that is awesome to hear he working towards the papers. As well about josh that all i could ask for to just stay strong and keep busy. Yes there are trials but like you said definatly always a way to overcome them. Wow what a week it wasnt one of the more succesfull but i care more about the people not the dats. Love you Dad and thanks for your support. Write to you next week.

Jacked
So here are your questions for this week:
So you mentioned that you are really starting to love the people. How are you liking the country/city of Guatemala?
Tell me about the sister that cooks for you guys. What's her name, what does she usually cook and about how much do you pay her?
Describe some of the homes you visit your investigators in.
Is everyone pretty humble there, or do you get to visit with people with means as well?
Tell me about your most exciting thing that has happened in the last two weeks?
Tell me about some of the members in the wards you get to work with or have gotten to know. Names and what are they like?
How about the Bishops?
Tell me about your zone conferences? What have you learned and have you heard from any general authorities?
Oh man its great here people are all diferent but as a misionary you start caring about people and see them as children of heavenly father. As well the scenery is awesome it basically really dirty city straight into jungle some peoples back yards you should see. Its a risk taking our cameras to our area but one of these days I will. The guy that robbed us didnt do anything he was just really drunk started throwing up gang signs and asked us for money we didnt know if hre had a gun on him but we didnt want to find out it was 5 quets which is about 70 cents he wanted 10 dollars american but we were like we dont car dollars. He left after that no problem we fist bumped and everything. Our cocinera is hma Sacaida she makes good food like chicken, soup, noodles, beans and rice whatever it pretty varied. we pay her 15 quetz a day (2 bucks) that is a worked out deal across the whole mission. becaus some time we eat in other areas like the zone leaders. Holmes are varied to depends where exactly we are like colonies like 8 de marzo, la joya, Acentamiento are poor. But others are nice two stories brick walls. Basically everyone has tin roofs so when its raining hard we cant teach because no can hear anyone. That isnt a big problem but it happens. Not eveyone is humble no but alot are. Thats not the problem because we can basically get into any house we want but everyone and thier dog son evangelicos. One of the most exciting things was probably when i got off the bus and my copm didnt and i had to run after it untill the next stop he didnt even know. The common form of entertainment for us is the drunks though. There is something always going on with them. We only have one ward in our area the people are great Some families like familia lopez are pilas Hmo always helps us out. another would be familia Xec The parents are fun and two son Oliver who is 28 and alex who is 23. The both arent married and is doesnt look like it is happening soon. We like to molestarles about being chambones. Alex knows alot of english and asks me about american culture. That actually is something i get asked alot And i have noticed that we have alot of things that these people dont . Like one of our recent converts Conrado he is 60 something doesnt have a job cant find one and barely getsa along, yes ward members help him but he doesnt have social security or any real support. He has family but only one of his daughters help him out. Just something i was thinking about. Our bishop is awesome he is pretty young though just barely 30 but he gets stuff done loves us and likes to have us over. He says the last 2 or three companionships havent been as hardworking as us. I have had one zone conference it was with the four city zones but no general authorities, it was awesome i learned alot. alright mom thats all for this week love you and thankyou for everything love hearing about the family and everything. Thanks Dad for the support always I am trying towork hard and enjor it at the same time. Today is the day we find out if one of us is leaving and who. Yea it has been a crazy change. Glad to hear ben is doing better.Also that josh is alive i still habent heard from him yet. I get flashbascks of football sometimes when I talk about it. Ammie and Eric will have a blast this year. Sorry to hear that the honda is back to its old habits there was a pretty good run there. Well love you Dad and always thanks for everything you do.

Writing on my Usual Day (Mon, Tues or Wednesday)
Award winning questions from Mom:
How did your baptisms go?
What do you do for zone meetings?
What areas are included in your zone?
Do you get to see the other missionaries from the CCM?
Everyone keeps asking me if you have lost weight, so have you?
How are all you things holding up, do you need anything?
We have had two baptisms so far but they are good noe and evrthing. Well we ahve zone council where our zone gets together and just go over a point we need to improve on its great practice. Then there are zone conferences which is more like region conference becuase it is all of the city zones which is alot of misionaries. where president assitentes and secretaries come and its all ofcial basically so president can get closer with misionaries and teach something. We had this just last thurs day and i bore mr testimony it was great.THere are alot of ares in our zone and i cant remember them all. Actually at he zone conference i got to see all of my district from the CCM. I dont think i hve lost alot of wieght but who knows. Everything is fine except when my memory was all out my camera wont read any more. I formated it and everything tried other peoples memeory cards but still nothing kind of frustrated with that but its nothing to get all worked up about. love you mom and talk to ya next week.

7/27/2011 - Meeting of the Mom's
Mom's Probing Questions:
How old was the boy you were trying to baptize? and did he end up getting back in to get baptized?
How may investigators do you have right now and what are their names? Tell us about them.
Tell us about what you do on a daily basis, what's your routine?
What's the most spiritual thing that has happened since you've been out in the field?
What's the weather like right now?
Where do you get to write to us, from what computer or place do you go? Can you send pictures?
The little boy was 9 and we are trying to baptise him this week he says he will but we will see. We have probably a pool of 30 investigators but about half are progressing just because we cant set another date when they are home. A couple of them are familia Ramirez who really want to get baptised but arent married we are working on that. A recent convert is conrado who was totally ready to be baptized the day we meet him his wife is dead and he lives alone the gospel is already changing his life and bringing blessing I got to baptize him this last Sunday and that was great. We conferm him thais Sunday. Well we wake up everyday exercise and shower Personal study companion study language study go out for a couple hours usually contacting. THen there is luch with our cocinera which is always good. After we go back to work and switch off between citas and contacting. At around 830 we head home and around 9 we get there.Then its dinner whatever is in the house if we are hungry Then write in journal repot dats and talk. 1030 bedtime. The most spiritual experince I have had was when we were teaching a family and the hma doesnt want to go to church because of fear of what her family will think. Basically told her the decision is yours but THey werent my word I was definatly talking with the Spirit. There have been more but that was my first true experiance with that and it felt great. Right now its rainy season so about 50 60 percent chance it will rain every day but rain doest bother me and the sun is definately not as powerful as AZ. we just come here to this computer lounge with our district and pay 5 q for an hour. We always do it after district meeting that why I write on different days some times. LOve you mom and thankyou for everything. write to you next week.

As a side note, I was able to meet Dallin's MTC companion and have lunch with her. It was fun meeting with you Janelle (Elder Tanner Hopkin's Mom). I was born in Mexico, she was born in Canada, we eat lunch in Arizona, and our sons are serving in Guatemala. Small world.

7/20/2011 - No Double Dippin

Do you get to meet or do anything with the church members?

WOW! I forgot about the annerversery i cant spell. You both and your mariage is why I am here and the person I am. We have about 12 progressing investigators right now so thats good but we want more. Our baptism fell through because the kid has a terrible fear of water and he ran out after I tried to dunk him once. (Tell the truth...how long did you hold him under?) I was kind of awestruck at first but you cant help those things. On sundays we go to ward coucil in the morning at 730 then church right after. we eat lunch and then its like another day of missionary work sometimes we go and chastize members and investigators why they didnt attend. No we dont chastize we show our concern. we are asigned to 1 ward and only one goes to our building the attendance is like 100 to 120 and it seems like that is the average here but i am not sure. We can walk to church we just have to take a bus to get to our area first. During church and when we go visit them for leccions or service is how I have gotten to know members. We also take someone with us from time to time a baron. We do stuff all the time with missionaries when we have zone coucil district meetings and pday we havent taken any trips or anything yet. the interesting story is that kid who ran out during the baptism I felt wierd standing there is the pila and the kid crying really loud not wanting to go back in. 7/11/2011 - the most convenient day of the yr aka slurpee day

Do you live in an area where there's lots of stores and stuff or is it more rural?

my apartment is one story two rooms and a bathroom there is on hall that is half one the area that ihalf kitchen half study area. I like it but we need to clean it. My companion and I are still great he tells me how pilas i am. we do work hard and he is still the most awesome trainer he actuall only has 8 months and he is training thats rare. Yea when I said last week it was dangerous it was. But its not like they hunt misionaries but there is always every once in a while we hear gunfire but its easy to avoid. The people we do teach are great they are receptive but there are still people that dont want anything to do with us. But everyone is kind they tell not to go somewhere because its dangerous and they arent even members. Ward members feed us sometimes but we have a cocinera that we pay when we go to her. Our area is just alot of houses no yards just houses right next to eachother. Pday there is usually some zone activity and then whatever. The baptism went great an hermano in the ward baptized her and then proposed to her they have been dating for a while. That is one family on their way to the temple. We have a ton of investigators we actually have a baptism set for everyweek of this change and two of them are families. We knock door to door it is the most efective thing we do.

7/6/2011 - First post from the field

Answers from the field:
My last weeks in the mission were awesome but fast nothing special happened except a farewell devotional Then it was off. I have been in the field for a week now and its soo great. Such a different life than anything I have ever seen . My trainer is E Rivas from Beliz he is fluent in both spanish and english and is an awesome trainer. we are in mezquital dont freak out but it IS the most dangerous area in the mission we cant even live there so we live in a slightly less dangerous area but you know its city life there are no stories of incidents with misionaries. My copm is really good at avoiding the most dangerous spots. The people are great though and we have the oportunity to be the most succesfull area in the the mission we just have to work hard. It wasnt to rough transition from ccm to hear. I have been wanting to get out here for a while now. Our apartment is pretty getto and non lavished but we are hardly there so we dont care thankyou mom for everthing I love you and will talk to you next week.
